Mushroom and Plant Identification Class

with CT Foraging Club

Learn to safely and sustainably forage for your wild plants and mushrooms! CT Foraging Club founder Amy Demers and forager and chef Vinny Crotta will teach us how to identify and utilize spring fungi and plants positively.

We will taste Chaga tea and a foraged snack and then take a 45-minute walk to practice plant and mushroom ID skills. 

25% of the proceeds of this workshop will go towards a donation to the Yellow Farmhouse Education Center, whose goal is to connect people to where their food comes from and make a local, sustainable food system accessible to all.

Registration is $35 per person. 

Note: This event will focus on identifying and locating wild mushrooms, not collecting them. This event will take place outside rain or shine.

Join us to learn how to grow a pollinator-friendly flowering lawn this spring on March 29 from 10:30AM - 12PM!

Our local food system relies on the health and abundance of the wildlife around us. Margit Burgess, Accredited CT-NOFA Organic Lawn Care Professional, will teach you how to convert your landscape into native gardens to help boost biodiversity, ecosystem health, and food system resiliency.

There will be plenty of time for questions so that you can feel confident in your plans to create a vibrant and sustainable landscape!

Registration is $10 per person. Proceeds help Yellow Farmhouse provide field trips to children all over southeast Connecticut. 

This class will be held at the Yellow Farmhouse Education Center on Stone Acres Farm, 389 North Main Street, Stonington CT 06378.

Food For Thought: Writing Inspired by Meals and Memories

Gather around the table for a unique writing workshop that explores the deep connection between food and storytelling. Whether it’s the memory of a childhood kitchen, the flavors of a journey, or the stories shared over a good meal, this workshop will help you bring those experiences to life on the page.

Food For Thought will be led by award-winning author Lara Ehrlich, founder and director of Thought Fox Writers Den, a creative writing center located at the historic Stonington Velvet Mill.

The workshop will meet in the recently restored greenhouse on Stone Acres Farm on April 1, 8, 15 & 22 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. 

The cost of this four part workshop is $250. Proceeds from this workshop will support Yellow Farmhouse's work writing curriculum for culinary teachers interested in teaching about cooking with the seasons.
