Young Cooks & Farmers - Week 8: The Final Scoop

August 25th - 28th, 9:30am - 12:30pm, $50 per day

Our Young Cooks & Farmers program brings children ages 6 - 12 to Yellow Farmhouse Education Center to experience sustainable farming and seasonal cooking. Children work with farmers and culinary educators to investigate and explore a regenerative farm, grow and harvest produce, and prepare farm-fresh recipes.

Week Eight: The Final Scoop. Churn up flavor with homemade ice creams and sorbets. We’ll use late summer produce to make tried and true favorites like peach ice cream and raspberry sorbet, and experiment with new flavors like basil ice cream and sweet corn sorbet. Each day will be a new set of recipes.

Children and their caregivers join Yellow Farmhouse educators under the apple tree for a story, a nature activity, and a farm fresh snack.

Age: 3 - 6 years old. $15 per class.

Storytime will be held on Wednesdays, from 10AM - 11AM. 

Proceeds benefit the Yellow Farmhouse Education Center, whose goal is to connect people to where their food comes from and make a local, sustainable food system accessible to all.

Pickle Me This: Pickling 101 Workshop

Preserve the early fall bounty in this hands-on cucumber pickling class with Kelly Caisse of KDCrop Farms, where we'll cover vegetable selection, creating brines, proper sterilization technique, and the hot water bath method. Say goodbye to wasted produce and hello to a pantry full of delicious, homemade pickles!  

With all materials provided, you'll leave with not only newfound knowledge, but also a jar of your own homemade pickles—perfect for sharing or savoring yourself. Just bring an apron, a notebook, and a readiness to learn!

Growing Through The Seasons: Gardening Workshops

Yellow Farmhouse and Stone Acres farmers will help you create a blueprint for your beds, plan for produce throughout the growing season, manage weeds and pests sustainably, cultivate a bounty of tomatoes, build soil health, and put your garden to rest in the fall.

All experience levels are welcome!

Sabores de Portugal: A Culinary Journey Through Portuguese Food and Wine

October 4, 2025 | 4:00 - 6:30 PM

$125 per person, includes hands-on instructions and a 3-course meal paired with Portuguese wines.

 

Join us for an immersive Portuguese cooking experience that will transport you straight to the cobblestone streets of Lisbon and the rustic kitchens of northern Portugal.

Learn traditional cooking techniques and hear stories about the cultural significance of each dish from Chef Sylvia and Chef Jose. Learn to select and pair Portuguese wines from Spencer and Lynn’s Wine and Spirits Merchants. Enjoy a meal around the table with a feast of Portuguese food and wine. 

Come hungry for both food and knowledge – você vai adorar! (You're going to love it!)

 

What You'll Learn to Make:

Caldo Verde with Chouriça - Portugal's most beloved soup. Learn the traditional technique of paper-thin collard slicing (called "julienne à portuguesa") and discover how to achieve the perfect creamy potato base.

Broa de Milho - a golden, slightly dense cornbread that's been a staple of Portuguese tables for centuries.

Pataniscas de Bacalhau with Fresh Salad - crispy, golden fritters with a bright, simple salad dressed with Portuguese olive oil and vinegar.

Peras Bêbadas (Drunken Pears) - pears poached in Portuguese wine with warm spices.

 

What's Included: All ingredients, wine pairings, recipes, and of course, the feast we create together!
