The Art of Empanadas at Masa

Chef Jorge Baldiviezo opened Masa in Stonington’s Velvet Mill in April 2024. In January, Masa made CT Magazine’s list of top new restaurants. Prior to moving the United States, Chef Baldiviezo was chef de partie at Central, the visionary restaurant in Lima Peru that earned #1 on the list of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2023. Now Chef Boldiviezo is expressing his latin roots through traditional dishes, artisanal sandwiches, and innovative empanadas.

In this hands-on class, Chef Baldiviezo will welcome you to his kitchen and teach traditional and new takes on empanadas fillings and the fine art of hand crimping.

Workshop price: $100

Proceeds will make it possible for Yellow Farmhouse to bring children from all over Connecticut to Stone Acres Farm to learn to cook with seasonal produce.

Growing Through The Seasons: Gardening Workshops

Yellow Farmhouse and Stone Acres farmers will help you create a blueprint for your beds, plan for produce throughout the growing season, manage weeds and pests sustainably, cultivate a bounty of tomatoes, build soil health, and put your garden to rest in the fall.

All experience levels are welcome! 

$35 per workshop.

Food For Thought: Writing Inspired by Meals and Memories

Gather around the table to explore the deep connection between food and storytelling with award-winning author Lara Ehrlich. Whether it’s the memory of a childhood kitchen, the flavors of a journey, or the stories shared over a good meal, this workshop will help you bring those experiences to life on the page.

Lara Ehrlich is an award-winning author, and the founder and director of Thought Fox Writers Den, a creative writing center located at the historic Stonington Velvet Mill.

The Art of Baking at Meryl Bakery

In these hands-on classes, Jessica Spivey, owner of Meryl Bakery will welcome you into her kitchen and teach you to work with sourdough, bake with whole grains, and create gluten-free bakes.

Jessica Spivey opened Meryl Bakery in Stonington’s Velvet Mill in October 2024. Prior to Meryl Bakery, Jessica was the Pastry Chef at Mystic’s award-winning Oyster Club and Port of Call where she earned a nomination for Best Pastry Chef by the Connecticut Restaurant Association in 2024. At Meryl Bakery, which has quickly become a Stonington sensation, Jess uses local and seasonal ingredients to produce naturally leavened products made by hand with care.

Monday April 14th - Thursday, April 17th, 9:30am - 12:30pm

Every culture has a food pocket. Join us for a world tour with stops in the United States, Italy, Latin America, and China. Come learn about and participate in sustainable farming and learn to make ravioli, hand pies, dumplings and empanadas. Each day includes a lunch prepared by the children.
